Silent Auction
The Silent Auction has proven an important and enjoyable way to raise funds for the Club. Many thanks to our members for their generous and imaginative donation of items and services which made this auction possible.
Herewith a few of the items and services that were offered at the auction. A full catalogue, featuring lot numbers and donors names, was made available at the dinner.
Lot 100: Tours & Excursions
- Scenery in the Red Sea: Five-day dive package for two in the Red Sea.
- Tour of Lamont-Doherty Earth Observation with the executive director, at Columbia University.
- Canoe or kayaking trip in Maine.
- Five nights for two at the Treetops Guest Cottage on Antigua, West Indies.
- Travel back into history: three-nights accommodation in an early Georgian country house in Orford, England.

Lots 400: Art & Photography in Two Dimensions
- Sir Ernest Shackleton, one of the most famous of Antarctic explorers, is commemorated in a framed portrait and inset signature.
- Oil pastel in black & brown of two wolves, double-matted with suede, framed.
- One small leap: Print of painting of Neil Armstrong by Alan Bean, matted, framed, and signed by the artist.
- Oil painting entitled "Snow Leopard" by artist-member Dwayne Harty.
Lots 500: Garments & Gear
- Mountain Hardware: Stay snug, dry, and warm (and in place) in a two-person, three-season dome tent.
- Mountain Hardware jacket: This functional, yet stylish, olive-colored jacket is at home in the Redwoods or on Park Avenue.
Lots 600: Interesting Items in Three Dimensions
- Cribbage anyone? A 1920s artwork by an Inuit artist transforms a walrus tusk into a functional cribbage board.
- Swiss army knife similar to the one carried on the Breitling Orbiter and a framed piece of the original craft.
- Bow, arrows, rattan from West Papua (poison not included).
