Explorers Club Annual Dinner

banquet

The Club is renowned for its grand Explorers Club Annual Dinner (known as "ECAD") which dates back to the beginning of the twentieth century. Since its founding in 1904, members of the Club have gathered annually in New York to review the year in exploration, honor the world’s top explorers, and break bread together.

ECAD 2008
The 2008 Annual Dinner had as its theme "Exploring Planet Ocean." Dr. Eugenie Clark, "The Shark Lady," received The Explorers Club Medal. Dr. Sylvia Earle served as the dinner chair. Speakers included David Doubilet, Julia Whitty and Dr. Ellen Prager.

ECAD 2007
The 2007 Annual Dinner focused on "The Importance of Polar Places." Speakers included polar explorer Rune Gjeldnes, scientist Paul Mayewski and author Barry Lopez.

ECAD 2006
The 2006 Annual Dinner looked ahead to "What's Left to Explore". Speakers included biologist E. O. Wilson, astronaut Kathleen Sullivan, and many others.

ECAD 2005
The 2005 Annual Dinner, carrying the theme "Meeting the Challenges of the 21st Century", was held Saturday, March 19, 2005, at the Waldorf=Astoria Hotel, in New York City. Speakers included James Watson, co-discoverer of the structure of DNA, Olafur Ragnar Grimsson, President of Iceland, and Col. Matthew Bogdanos, who led the recovery of looted antiquities in Baghdad.

Centennial ECAD 2004
The year 2004 marked the centennial of the founding of our esteemed organization here in New York City. We celebrated this year, as we have done for the past one hundred, with our famed Explorers Club Annual Dinner. The theme of the dinner, held on Saturday evening, March 20th, 2004, was "A Century at the Forefront of Exploration".

ECAD 2003
At the 2003 Explorers Club Annual Dinner, 1,100 Club members and invited guests gathered for a "Celebration of Exploration". Legendary aviator and Club member General Chuck Yeager, the first man to break the sound barrier, was the featured speaker.
