REPORT—YOUTH ACTIVITY FUND
University of Glasgow Gambia Expedition

2005
By Stephanie Ballantyne

Expedition Leader:
Stephanie Ballantyne

Introduction
The University of Glasgow expedition set out to the River Gambia National Park in the summer months of July to September 2005. I, Stephanie Ballantyne, was part of the National Park team, and my aim for the expedition was to produce an in-depth ornithological inventory for the park, because currently there had been no proper scientific research into the bird biodiversity within the park. The bird inventory was produced in relation to five different habitats that would allow for bird distribution to be studied. Another aim for the expedition was to examine whether the vulnerable Lesser kestrel and lappet-faced vulture and the, near threatened African skimmer and African oystercatcher, were present within any of the habitat types.
