Introduction
Marine species in coastal areas around Antarctica are vulnerable to impacts from adjacent research stations which involve discharges, dumping and habitat modification. The Antarctic scallop (Adamussium colbecki), identified by the Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research as a key indicator of environmental variability, was used for assessing sub-lethal station impacts in the Antarctic coastal zone. .... The purpose of this international collaboration was to generate biological baselines from the Antarctic coastal zone with marine indicator species (common circumpolar species with abundant populations that are easy to collect and experimentally manipulate.
