ABOUT THE CLUB
Daniel A. Bennett was elected the 36th president of The Explorers Club on March 19, 2006. As an explorer, Bennett has participated in six flag expeditions: the Nepal Upper Arun Valley Expedition (2001), the Humpback Whale Research Projects (2002 & 2003), the Madagascar Flora & Fauna Survey (2004), the Kilimanjaro Bioprospecting Expedition (2005), and the Easter Island Archeology Expedition (2005). He has also participated in expeditions in Greece with high-altitude archaeologist Johan Reinhard, climbing thirteen sacred mountains as research for National Geographic and assisted Reinhard in excavations in the Andes Mountains of Peru in 2003. In the last several years, Bennett spent over six weeks on the islands of Santiago, Fernandina and Isabella in the Galapagos assisting Frank Sulloway in taking a series of comparative photographs to show the ecological and geographical changes on the islands since 1970. A native of San Antonio, Texas, Bennett has been a successful entrepreneur and business executive. He was the founder and CEO of Sunbelt Sportswear and DAB Real Estate, Ltd., based in San Antonio. He built and successfully operated an international apparel design and manufacturing company that sold sportswear and accessories in the United States and other countries for more than twenty-nine years. Over the past few years, Bennett has stepped away from the management of his businesses to instead focus on his interest in building non-profit organizations into financially successful, well-managed entities. He was a long-time member of the board of directors of JP Morgan Chase Bank (San Antonio), former chairman of ACCION Texas, and currently serves as treasurer of ACCION USA, the largest non-profit micro-enterprise lender in the US.
